Iran, Syria sign MoU on environmental protection
Head of the Department of Environment Ali Salajegheh and Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf signed a Memorandum of Understanding on environmental protection.
6 June 2022- Pointing to the importance of Iran-Syria relations in various fields, including the environment and the renewal of the 2006 agreements on dust storm prevention, Salajegheh said: "It is necessary to update and activate previous signed MoUs between Iran and Syria and to sign a new and updated MoU on dust storm prevention".
The purpose of updating this cooperation document is to create a joint working group that will hold regular meetings at least once a year in Iran and Syria in order to take concrete measures to address dust storm.
He noted that measures such as educational cooperation and transfer of knowledge and experiences, as well as the implementation of joint projects as pilots in various areas to address dust storm and adapting to the phenomenon are stipulated in the MoU.
Given the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in formulating regional and sub-regional action plans, which will be discussed at the Tehran Conference, with the participation of the ministries of neighboring states this year, we hope that the event will share the researches that have been done in the field of environment and we can take useful and effective steps to reduce the damages by implementing these programs in cooperation with the countries of region, he said.
It is worth mentioning that Massoud Mansour, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jahad and Head of Natural Resources and Watershed management Organization (NRWO), accompanied the Vice President and Head of Department of Environment on the recent mission to Iraq and Syria.
