Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization

Rome - Dr Abbasali Nobakht, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jahad and Acting Head of Natural Resources and Watershed management Oraganization of Islamic Republic of Iran, met FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, on the sidelines of the 26th Session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO) that took place from 3 to 7 October 2022.

The Director-General reiterated FAO's continued support to the agrifood system in the Islamic Republic of Iran, referring in particular to the ongoing cooperation with Iran's Natural Resources and Watershed management Organization (NRWO) to catalyse investments and actions to enhance the agriculture sector's resilience to sand and dust storms.

Dr. Nobakht appreciated FAO’s continued support to the agriculture sector in Iran and provided an overview of the ongoing efforts by the Government to promote climate-resilient forestry and sustainable water management programmes as part of the country's overall forest management system.

The Director-General and the Deputy Minister agreed on the importance of continued efforts to address the challenges posed by sand and dust storms through regional cooperation and science-based approaches that facilitate the exchange of knowledge, data and best practices, and combine short and long-term interventions.
